COVID-19 is Not the Only Thing Changing NY Construction Sites

If you’re a property owner, developer, or involved in the construction industry, you know the past 2 years has brought wave after wave of change. COVID-19 highlights an increased need for worker safety, both in terms of appropriate social distancing and the use of PPE. There are a lot of new rules and regulations to follow – and of course, all of the previous rules created by the DOB and Transit Authority are still in place.

It’s important that every contractor working on your project – including the crane and rigging company – is fully aware of and in compliance with all of these regulations. The reason for this is simple. A city inspector can come on a building site at any time, and they have the right to look at anything they have questions about. This includes things like whether or not every member of the crane and rigging crew has had the appropriate safety training and that this has all been documented properly. It also includes equipment standards, such as  high wind warning systems. If the inspector finds any aspect of the operation not in compliance with regulations, they have the authority to issue a stop work order.

Stop work orders are expensive and time consuming to resolve. They’re also largely – almost entirely – preventable. That’s why it is important to work with a NYC crane and rigging company that maintains an active awareness of all relevant regulations and takes steps to ensure that they’re always in compliance. Doing so provides the client with an extra level of assurance and security throughout the project.

The pandemic is the most recent situation to impact construction in the greater New York area, but it won’t be the last. Protect your project by choosing a crane and rigging company that does everything by the book.
