Here’s Why NYC’s Transit Authority is Visiting Your Job Site

There are numerous rules and regulations that apply to construction projects throughout the five boroughs. As a result, it’s fairly common to see DOB personnel on your job site; but were you expecting the Transit Authority to show up?

Cranes, Trains, the Transit Authority, and Your Job Site

New York City is home to one of the world’s largest subway systems. Because cranes and boom trucks are very heavy, it’s a best practice to avoid parking them directly above subway tunnels. However, if not parking above NYC’s subway system is unavoidable, cranes and boom trucks must have special permits and insurance to do otherwise.

Complying with the Transit Authority is something we’ve learned in our many years providing crane and rigging services to NYC. That’s why we use a set of subway maps to check against every site we send our cranes to. Doing this early in the process gives us plenty of time to get insurance and special permits should they be required.

Safety & Speed is Key for Builders on a Time Budget

NYC is one of the costliest cities to build in in the world. As such, you want to ensure you’re doing everything possible to keep needless delays from slowing down your project. Should the Transit Authority find a crane operating without the required permits and insurance, they won’t hesitate to issue a Stop Work order immediately. Stop Work orders can take days, even weeks to be resolved, and they often come with expensive fines. Save money and time with a NYC crane and rigging company that does things the right way from the start.

Complying with the Transit Authority’s rules results in a safer job site. A collapsed crane that falls through the street into a subway tunnel is bad news for everyone involved.

At L&M Crane & Rigging safety is priority number one, with completing your job on time and on budget being a very close second. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with choosing a crane and rigging company that knows how to do the job right!
